The pipes in a dry-type sprinkler system are filled with pressurized air or nitrogen rather than water. The air keeps a remote valve, also known as a dry pipe valve, closed. The dry-pipe valve, which is located in a hot area, prevents water from entering the pipe until one or more sprinklers are activated by a fire. As a result, the air escapes and the dry pipe valve opens. Water then enters the pipe and flows onto the fire via open sprinklers.
Sprinklers built for environments depending on weather conditions.
